Changing registered keeper as the tax expires

I think I know the answer to this, but soliciting opinions in case there's something I missed.

A few months ago I sold a car to my Dad. As there was still a couple of months left on the road tax, and as it doesn't transfer I suggested we leave the V5 in my name until the tax ran out at the end of this month - He as the driver/keeper is still contactable via me, and his insurers were informed when he took out a policy in his own name.

Anyway, the plan is to do a change of keeper online on the last day of the month, then he would use the V5C/2 new keeper section to tax it the next day either online or at the PO counter.

Are there any pitfalls I'm not aware of?
The first of July is a Sunday, will the website be 'open' then? (I know websites are usually 24hr but I know some government departments aren't.
Can the V5C/2 be used to buy tax 'in advance' and fill it in on the 30th to start on the 1st?

I know I may be over-complicating things, but i'm determined not to let them get an extra month's tax out of us.

Thanks

The things you will be doing wrong here are:
Not insuring a vehicle that you are the registered keeper of.
If your Dad has told his insurers that he is the owner and keeper of the vehicle when he isnt - if he has told them that you are the registered keeper and they have accepted it then happy day.

You would of been better to register the vehicle at the end of the next whole month, as you would of got the refund anyway.

How much is the VED per year? Unless its a 2007 4x4 it would of probably amounted to £10-£15 a month - so not really worth it either way.

Assuming the car can be parked off the road, could you:
    - Declare it SORN on Saturday 30th
    - Then on Sunday 1st - transfer ownership
    - New owner applies for tax

Yes, he told them he wasn't the registered keeper, and that no other policy would be in force on the day his policy was nominated to start.

The delay was just to help out cashflow wise. Its £155 I know it's not a lot of £ per month but it's the principle.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. The car will be off the road, so that'll be the easiest way to deal with it. Glad I posted here now. :money:

I've done exactly this, but with a month in between.
I bought a car from a friend. He drove it to my house in May, and then declared it SORN.
We transferred ownership while SORN'd - then I re-applied for SORN - DVLA system needs 5 days before I could do this.
I've sorted a few jobs on it in June, and plan to tax it again in July :)

Or leave yourself as registered keeper and save having it shown as having an extra keeper.
