As a solo, it's generally cheaper to avoid package holidays and diyEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0

*Usually* it's better to avoid package holidays for solo travel as they are designed around couples and families. The exception is for last minute deals when they are just trying to shift their inventory. In early May I found myself with a week free and booked a last minute deal (well, not literally last minute but only 48 hours before departure) with Thomas Cook to Turkey which was much cheaper than any similar DIY trip I could find.
However, if you are looking 8-10 weeks away and don't want to risk leaving it late then I would just book DIY as that will give you the biggest choice of destinations and hotels. September can be a high demand month for package holidays for couples without children.
One option if you are close to Gatwick or Heathrow are BA City Breaks which are flight + hotel deals. I've done several over recent years and often the total price isn't much more than the flight alone.0 -
Some hotels covered by Thomas Cook and TUI do single rooms - worth a look.
