"Remedial works fee" Deposit Deduction

Options
Quick question - friend has moved out of a house and the agency have deducted £50 for a "remedial works fee", because it is in the contract. I'm pretty sure any deductions from the deposit should only be to strictly put things back to how they were before the tenant moved in, but I of course could be wrong.

I'm going to advise they attempt to reject the £50 claim, but can they do this? I'm yet to see the contract to see what it states.

Yes, you can appeal against it to the deposit protection scheme.

What are they claiming the work is for?

  • There is another claim to clean the whole carpet for £78. I have rejected this and asked for pictures as evidence.
I imagine the Remedial works fee is the admin fee attached to this, but otherwise there is no description. Only in the email to the tenant did they mention that it is in the contract.

I would just dispute the whole thing. Don't try and negotiate with them. Just dispute it and see what the deposit protection team say
