Skips, prices

I appreciate this is dependant on area , but what do people reckon to pay for a skip?
To expand on that , I'm a trade user, local council just put up their disposal rates to the point where its no longer financially sustainable. So I have been forced to alter my standard price / estimating text from, " all waste materials to be removed from site via a licensed waste carrier" to "waste material will be bagged where reasonably possible and left on site ".
The reason, for a 8yd skip

Council permit if on the road £65 .
Delivery and collection, £250 plus vat.
Council disposal charge £125 per ton.
Gypsum based waste £158 per ton.

Circa 5 tons in a skip. I'm getting close to £1000 for one skip. All of which means I cannot compete with those who lets say use alternative methods. The next time your builder says waste to be left on site, just remember why.

In London we bought a van for £1500 and took much stuff to the tip ourselves. It's around £200 a tonne.

In Herefordshire, £170 plus VAT for a 20 tonne grab.

Worcestershire and Birmingham - around £190 plus VAT for a regular skip.

You have to charge accordingly, that's all you can do.

In my area it cost £190 for a builders skip (8yrd) less for 6, 4 etc. This includes filling the skip regardless of what it weighs. Are you sure you are paying per ton too, that's never the way skips have worked in Scotland where I am.

We just had a new kitchen and were quoted £400 for a skip. We broke down the old cabinets and other stuff and put it in the back of the car and took it to the local tip. Took 25 trips - around 5 miles each trip so a lot cheaper just took time......

Our council now has a policy, DIY waste can only be dropped off once a month. A bit annoying. But if you go at different times and 4-5 days apart the staff don't remember you to call you up on that.

Our wheely bin is always half full - in the past I kept waste in the garden and filled up the wheely bin a bit at a time and over a few months I managed to get rid of all the waste, :rotfl:

You are being seriously mugged off. I pay £170 for a 6 yard. I fill it with everything. No extra charges for plaster board etc. No extra charge for weight. You need to get another company to quote.

That does sound very high. I've been paying £180 for an 8yrd mixed waste, it does exclude plasterboard, hazardous materials etc. but everything else is fair game
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!
