Mattress topper is a good idea but more importantly if you are getting pins and needles at night then a trip to the doctors is what I would recommend.

A mattress won't cut off circulation no matter how firm it is, or are you exaggerating your point?

Did you try a mattress in store and if so is this the same mattress but feels different?

If that is the case it may be that yours needs to bed in, which can take a few weeks/months especially if it is a hand made one.

the likes of Vi spring do offer one change of mind ( will swop the mattress) between 30 and 90 days of purchase.

other than that if you think the mattress is different to the one you tried in store you may have to get someone out to test it .

    how much did you pay
