Scam?

Have a car for sale on ebay, had a message from 0 feedback member. They want to know registration of car, any issues with car, reason for selling and where is it to come and view, that does sound reasonable things to ask to be fair, but i have doubts, could be because I had a message from someone this morning ( from gum tree as it advertised there also) wanting to pay the full price (not seen the car) and cannot come for various reasons and will send a courier to collect it blah blah blah. This is a scam I knew straight off, thank god.

Am I being far too cautious now with the one from Ebay? any pointers in case I get anymore? :(

  • It could quite possibly be legit.

They want the reg to check MOT history, asking about issue and reason for selling is normal, and they want to view, not send an agent.

Contact them, at the minute you have nothing to lose.

Word of warning, answer 100% truthfully about the any issues question.

Private sales are sold as seen, but there have been a few cases in court lately where buyers have got money back after the seller not disclosing issues. Not saying you would lie, but cover your back.

Thanks for that your a star, there is only one issue, sometimes, not all the time and not frequently, you have to lock the doors with the key, hopefully any buyer won't mind that, my son didn't and he had it for 16 years.
I will email back and give him the info he asked for and take it from there.

Are you selling through the classified ad system on eBay , as if so you can happily exchange details. However just in case it's via normal auctions or BIN format do not under any circumstances give buyer any details as eBay bots will consider that an off eBay sale and you'll get a rather dangerous defect.

I always want to talk to somebody before allowing a visit to view.
If it's a Classified, give them your phone number and tell them to call.
If it's a BIN or auction you could have put something like "call me on xxxx nnnnnn to arrange viewing" in the listing details itself, (NOT in a message) - I do this and haven't been pinged for it (yet!).
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
