Chartered trust ppi

Hi all, this is my first post please be gentle.

In 1994 I had bought a car from a local car company and had the finance through Chartered Trust PLC. From 1994 to 1998

I have contacted lloyds whom I thought took over the company of Chartered Trust as Chartered are no longer trading, I then rightly or wronglyy thought this company which ceased trading in 1999 was taken over by Lloydstsb from 1999 to 2001 where I believe Lloyds black horse took over from 2001.

I have contacted Lloyds black horse and told them of the above details and they sent me out ppi claim forms, I contacted Lloyds black horse today 26/6/2018 to ask if I was sending these forms back to the correct company to deal with my ppi claim which they say they have no dealings or have never had any dealings with Chartered Trust?

I then contacted the FCA who gave me contact details for the Financial Ombudsman Service who then gave me contact detail for the Financial Services compensation Scheme (F.S.C.S.), all the see contacts have said that because the original company Chartered Trust PLC have ceased trading and because it is now over 24 years ago, it.is highly unlikely that I would be able to claim back PPI.

I have only just found this paperwork and what has my gripe, I have all documentation concerning this company and there is now no one that I can approach to bring this company to redress?

Please if there is anyone who has successfully claimed from this company and may know something that I have not covered, I would really love to hear from you.

Thank you.

ROBERT.

You would need to complain to the car company you bought the car from in 1994, not the finance providers.

But it's almost certain they won't have any records and it's pre regulation in any case.

Unfortunately regulation of firms like car dealerships didn't start until 2005. Even if you were able to complain to the dealer they would be allowed to reject your complaint without looking at it due to the time period. Think of it like driving down a road with a 40mph limit on Monday, then the council changing the speed limit on Tuesday to 30mph and sending you a speeding ticket for doing 40mph

The finance firm do not have any liability for the sale unless it was their staff member in the dealership. Your complaint is at the salesman in the garage, not the finance firm who have done nothing wrong.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The FCA do not deal with consumers directly. So, you often find direct communication with them is rather poor. They shouldnt have given you the details of the FOS as its clear the FOS have no remit here.

The FOS gave you the FSCS details as they had no remit and had they known the sale date, they would have known the FSCS have no remit either (they only cover sales made after Jan 2005).
nd there is now no one that I can approach to bring this company to redress?

    Correct. its game over.

The lender doesnt have liability for your complaint even if they still existed. The car dealer was the seller. So, they would be the ones you would complain to. However, car dealers were not regulated until January 2005.

  • Hi all,

Further to my question about claiming ppi from a car i bought in 1994 with chartered trust.

I have succesfully claimed nearly £5,000.00.

    So just to recap:

If you had a loan with Chartered trust then it was lloyds who took over this company.

I fortunately had the original agreement, which stated that I took out ppi when buying this car.

    Regards Robert.
