Buying abroad

Looking into the distant future my good lady and I have decided we would like the opportunity of buying a second property in Portugal (around Almancil) with the view it would/could be a retirement home in 20 or so years. Prior to then we would use it as a holiday home for ourselves and immediate family (not intending on letting it out as it would drive me nuts). We holiday in Portugal every year so would fund 35% of the yearly mortgage by not paying villa owners! (I am aware on top of this there would be running costs).
My questions are as follows:
1) Do I arrange mortgage in UK or Portugal (Barclays seem to be doing a lot of advertising so may have a chat with them)
2) Would this kind of financial transaction be covered by independent financial advisers (I dont want to be at the sole mercy of Barclays)
3) Where would I get best legal and tax advice from
4) Any MSE forum readers belong or know good related websites where I can start chewing out some of the issues (and more) above.
