Functional Skills Level 2- English

Hi guys,

I have to sit the exam in order to get the job I desire.
However, I am on a short time scale of 3-4 months to achieve this.

Does anyone know of any short courses which you can sit in order to do this? Or of any courses where you can just sit an exam or do the revision online.

NOTE- I do not mind paying

I live in between Burnley / Halifax

Have a google for some local Apprenticeship providers and they should be able to help you with Functional Skills

Do you have other qualifications that could be offered as an equivalent?

I don't have anything that could be an equivelant to Functional Skills L2, and I don't obtain a C+ GCSE.

I have a C+ in every other module, unfortunately just not in English.

Have you actually discussed this with the Police, as per your thread a few days ago? You have a degree - many employers would see that as an equivalency.

Otherwise, I would have thought that wanting a GCSE equivalent immediately at this time of year, after exams have been taken and with holidays coming up, would be hard to find.
  • Have they actually said that you will have the job as long as you achieve this?

I'd be talking to your local college as a matter of urgency.

Hi guys I don't know how to quote someone correctly so I apologise.
I have spoken to the police and although I do have a degree (2.1), I still require a GCSE C+, which I find bizarre. Although I can appreciate I don't technically meet the requirements, but have a degree.

And yes, they have told me, if I get offered the job, I have 3-4 months to achieve the qualification.

Your local college should offer it as a free course. I took mine a few years ago and achieved it within three months level 2 english :)

Most providers work on an academic year basis, so courses start in September and run to the following July. As such, you'll struggle to get on a course before September and even if you get on a fast track course you're unlikely to get to an exam this side of Xmas.
If you need it that quickly you may need to become a private candidate - this costs money (the training provider I work for offers private candidacy in FS at about £260-£300 per subject). Check if your local college offers this. You're not a million miles from me, drop me a message if no one local to you does it and I can link you up with the staff member at our place that handles private candidates and they can tell you all that you'd need to know.

A private candidate pays the fee and is registered with the exam board by the provider, but does all the revision and preparation for the exam themselves - no classes are offered - then you are told a date and time and turn up.

Be aware that L2 FS English has 3 exams (reading, writing, speaking and listening) so check if you do go private candidate your fee covers all 3 elements.

I agree with everything int his post but wanted to back this up; so many providers "forget" about S&L! Do make sure you get all 3.
