Any first-hand experiences of the above welcome as OH had the op last week and cannot get any definitive advice re going back to work or driving.

Surely the Health board is the place for this one..?
  • I have copied it across if you think that is where it should be, but that is Health and Beauty moneysaving which didn't seem quite right to me!

Perhaps it's too much like medical advice which nobody can give on the forums. Can't their doctor/consultant advise?

Well, they just say between 2 and 6 weeks! Which is a huge differential. I just wanted first hand accounts from someone who had had the OP about how long it took them.

It may be a huge differential, but presumably that's because some people recover very quickly, and can go back to work / driving within two weeks, and for some people it takes longer! 'My' experience - not that I have any! - won't necessarily be helpful ...

I had a detached retina last September.

This isn't medical advice just personal experience.

Has he been treated with the gas bubble in the eye or with the bands?

    I had the gas bubble.

I didn't drive for about a week and should probably have left it a day or two longer. I was only doing short distances.

I went back to work after a week. I do a desk job and for the first few days just worked a couple of hours a day.

The bubble took about two and a half weeks to go completely although it stopped impeding vision after about ten days.

I am now fully recovered with just the inevitable 'shading' in my vision at the affected area although I barely notice it in normal conditions.

I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

This isn't medical advice, it is just my experience.

I was off work about 8 weeks after having the band inserted. I could drive after about 6 weeks.
