Recommend me a car please!
I'm looking for a new car and want to get something reliable and cheap to run. I need something suitable for a family of 4 but what I mainly use my car for is commuting to work which is about 18 miles each way(takes about 45 mins), on A roads. I've only had petrol cars before so don't know whether to stick with this or whether a diesel would be better? I'm looking to spend about 6k and just want to get a car that will last a good while. Any recommendations please, I'm clueless when it comes to motors.

Diesel Mondeo or if you want a smaller car a Gen 9 Civic. I had a Gen 8 2.2 d Civic and commute distance was similar mileage to you and was getting close to 50 mpg, a Gen 9 Civic 1.6d will should see you over that.0

Do you live in an area where the type of engine and the fuel it uses is subject to a toll or conjestion charge, bridges, clean air zones?
You need to speak to someone in person, go down to the pub and talk cars, or see below.

LOL, OP wants to spend £6000 on a car and gets advised to spend £1200.
I think Arklight works for JJ Autos - the souths specialist Secondhand Almera dealer0 -
I wouldn't buy a diesel for that mileage (8k p/a you say?). Would suit an electric car if you don't do longer journeys often but not for £6k.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080

This is a money saving site and I've just saved the OP almost 5 grand.
He'll be very happy with his Almera.

I'd like an electric car but they are not in my price range currently.0
