Which is the best company to use for a pre-purchase mechanical inspection on a car in the UK?

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes buy cheap buy twice, so the best may not be the cheapest, I would suspect one with some legacy and redress a car club like AA, RAC etc.
  • I wouldn't bother with the likes of the AA or RAC. They employ people who are scared of saying a vehicle is good because they don't want any comeback.

A trusted local garage. Pay them for their time and they will be more realistic than the jobsworths at the AA.

I think I would rather have a pessimistic inspection report that highlights anything that may be an issue and then make my own mind up.

Depending on the car it may be worth joining an online forum for the marque and finding out what to look for, you may also find someone local who is an enthusiast who will go and view the car and give an opinion.
