Amex 5% cashback offer

Options
Can someone confirm I am understanding the Amex 5% cashback offer properly on the Platinum Everyday Card.

If I spend, say £4500 on a train season ticket immediately after getting the card, I would receive only £100 cashback for the first three months and no further spending in that period would earn cashback (even at the standard lower rate).

Is that correct?

    I've just checked my statement.

You will get 5% on the first £2000 and 1% on anything above that.

    Therefore, £125 on a £4500 spend.

I think you would earn £100 (5% on £2000) and £12.50 on the remaining £2500 (0.5%). You certainly would if the £2500 was a separate purchase.

Once you have spend £5000 you earn 1% on anything above. You could always give them a call to confirm.

I think the OP's interpretation of the conditions is correct - the 5% cashback with a £100 limit applies for the first three months, thereafter the 0.5 / 1% cashback applies.

    From https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/credit-cards/platinum-cashback-everyday-credit-card/:
    "Earn cashback on purchases
After the first three months of Cardmembership you'll earn up to 1% cashback, depending on how much you spend on the Card:"

    Colin is correct.

I'd forgotten about the 0.5% up to £5000.

Even if you only make that one purchase you will still get the £112.50.

Thanks for the replies. I will never find out the answer.

The card arrived and it only had a £1000 credit limit, which is completely useless for my needs, so I cancelled it.
