Wifi for Laptop Use - Away from Home

Hi
Every now and then - some times in a space of 3 weeks, other-times it can be as infrequent as several months - I have to work away from home for a couple of days and there is rarely any wifi that I can hook up to.
Where I stay is a residential area, but I have to overnight in properties that tenants have vacated so they have their internet cancelled.
How can I get decent wifi on my laptop so that I can do work?
I have internet access on my mobile phone but I don't seem to get a good enough connection if I try to tether.
What are my options please?

To use wifi you need something attached to the internet and then to transmit the wifi signal to your devices.
Use your phones internet connection or get yourself a dongle with a data bundle.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I guess when you tether your laptop to your phone, you are using bluetooth? Set up a portable wi-fi hotspot on your phone - I always find this is better. You might need an app, but my phone has it built-in. I go into my Settings and under Wireless choose More - from here I can choose to setup a portable hotspot.
Something else to note. Keep your phone in a window, without the sun shining on it. Use something to raise it above the frame of the window which is probably metal for increased mobile data signal strength.0 -
Who is your ISP? If it is BT you can connect to any BTWifi-with-FON wireless network you can find and use the login details for your account page on BT internet.
I believe Sky do a similar thing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
