Google Duo Got charged for

I got charged for using the above app on mobile even though had data and got a connection but advised not get a refund for the charge?
Am sure it says free calls and video call or have i got it wrong

What's the charge billed as?

As long as you had data or were on wifi it should be free (as in, it'll use the data allowance you have on your plan).
The only time you should get a change is is you run out of data or call a premium rate number (assuming it even allows that).

my number called by my wife and charged £1.50 she has called me after that but when I called my provider advised no other charges on her account SHe had data thus why charged

So, the bill just says 0123456789 (your number) £1.50. Nothing else?

On the face it, it looks like it was routed through something other than Duo?
Are you both in the UK? Near a border of none EU country?

Is the call in the call log of either the phone or Duo?
