    That was the regs not sort of, from the op description I'm guessing the flue is straight out the wall & not coming out at an angle, so therefore it's 600mm to the boundary or if it's facing an opening then this is 2m from flue to the opening
    Regs yes but not when the works had taken place if its 11 years or unknown works date (before they were not after they were hence sort of ) I don't get from there description any indication of flue direction straight, angled ,,,,

    If it didn't meet regs, wouldn't the building inspector have noticed and not issued a completion certificate for the extension if it didn't comply?

    Certification( membership of governing bodies) would be what a the building inspector would want for disciplines they now nothing about ( even from ones they do) supposedly ensures compliance although this is not exclusive to being a member it is the most common way, Although client has ultimate say irrespective of compliance the certificates from either can hit and miss at best completely ignored at worst ....

    Completion Certificated are not legally binding and cannot be taken as legal proof that everything is OK. They are not conclusive, and for good reasons - this case forms a typical example.
