Disposal of paint cleaning mixture.

I've just been applying a special primer to a door. I cleaned the brush in white spirit as recommended then got the residue off with hot water and washing up liquid. None of it has gone down the sink - in any case I'm careful as I have a septic tank. But now I have a bucket containing a water/primer/white spirit solution and am not sure how to dispose of it. I've seen suggestions that if you leave it out, the spirit will evaporate and the paint will sink to the bottom. But of course if it rains, the bucket will just get fuller.
What do you do with your decorating waste?
I'm going to have even more of an issue if I strip my beams with Kling Strip. Yes it takes off a load of gunk which can be separated but afterwards you have to wash down the beams with loads of water which ends up contaminated.

If you have 2l plastic pop bottles pour the waste in the empty bottle, cap on and throw it in the bin,

I chuck mine out the window :-)

If it's diluted enough it'll probably break down naturally over time in the rough bits of the garden.

I bottled up my last lot of paint cleaner and took it to the local civic amenity site where they can dispose of it with paints and chemicals.

No, no, NO. The bottle will get crushed by the compactor inside the bin lorry leaving the liquids to dribble out over the road.

If you have an open fire or stove, mix the liquids in to the ash, leave it to dry under cover, then put it in the bin. If no fire, kitty litter or sawdust works just as well.

You need to leave it somewhere undercover to dry out and then put the residue in the bin.

So at most 2 litres of liquid is going to perculate through tonnes of rubbish, not be absorbed by any of the rubbish already in the waste truck and somehow find its way out of a sealed container and onto the streets?

Makes you wonder why our local Council and water company advise homeowners to put waste cooking oil into containers and then into the bin. Surely our roads would be a complete oil slick if what you state is actually the case.

I used to have my own little slice of hillside and used to chuck stuff even though I probably shouldn't. Now I'm in a village and you can't stir without someone taking note. I like the fire suggestion. Hey maybe I could make my own firelighters! :D

I keep all old towels and sheets for this purpose. You soak it all into the towels, let them dry out and then throw them in the bin. At this time of year you should be able to find a period when it's not going to rain?
