Old Style Daily Saturday 23rd June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I’m certainly enjoying the wonderful weather that we are getting here. After lunch yesterday my friend and I went to the seaside for the rest of the day and stayed for an early evening drink before coming home.

My brother and sis in law are supposed to be picking me up this morning to go shopping but it seems such a shame to waste a glorious day wandering around the shops so I’m hoping that they change their plans and postpone that until next week.

I quite fancy a day sitting in the back garden reading. I’m not planning on doing much housework today. I did dust and vacuum through yesterday when I got home so there isn’t much that needs doing.

Dinner today will be a lamb steak with chips and whatever salad bits are in the fridge. I was given a chocolate fudge cake yesterday so I will have some of that for pudding.

I hope that you all have a good Saturday.

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Sun is shining and looks to be another decent day.

DH and myself are up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I'm showered and dressed and have just finished eating my brekkie, DS1 has gone into work for a few hours, DS2 will catch a lift with me to my work car park and walk to the gym from there.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/salad for the menfolk. I had a mushroom omelette and salad. Tonight will be picky bits, pizza, chicken portions, skinny fries, salad, pasta salad, picked onions, beetroot, coleslaw etc.

I was reasonably productive yesterday, after food shopping and running around getting the few other chores done, I did get the ironing done, got the washing done up to date, although there's a load in the WM at the moment that I'll peg out. There will also be DS1 work clothes and DS2's gym kit to make up another load.

I also did some trying on and searching out some clothes ready for our hols.

Hoping to get some time this afternoon to be able to get my chair out and sit the garden for a bit - we'll see.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

Another beautiful morning of blue skies with only small clouds scudding across the sky. I think I picked the right time to retire. It was deliberate, I really didn't want the first weeks to be in autumn with less chance of enjoying things in cold and rainy weather.

No specific plans today but I only got through sone of my planned jobs yesterday so will carry on today.

Hollyharvey your day yesterday sounds great, I do envy the closeness to the sea.

Hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone, it's a cool grey start here, but I think it has to improve.

We returned yesterday from our holiday in Scotland. The weather was varied, but you don't go to Scotland for the weather (no offence meant, Scottish posters, I'm in NE England which is not known for wonderful weather!!)
We've enjoyed our couple of weeks away, it was good to get out of the same old same old routines of home. I've brought back two bags of washing, so started that almost as soon as we got back.

We'll go over to the caravan today and get the last of our things out, and tidy up a bit.

Hope everyone is ok - I haven't read back yet.

Have a good day, and take care folks.
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. I'm another who is envious of your closeness to the sea. Welcome back SCARLETRIBBONS glad you had a nice holiday.

Another glorious day in store - apparently it's to get hotter and last all week the nice weatherman says. Though yesterday it did get a bit warm for gardening when DS came to cut the front hedge and the ivy all along the back fence. I was his gofer and tidy-upper and that was a warm job in itself. Anyway all done now and it looks so much better. The garden wheelie is full to the brim and a large garden bag too. I will empty that into the wheelie when it's been emptied at the end of the week as they don't empty bags any more.

No specific plans for today so I think it will be spent sitting in the garden and reading. I am another summer person and dread thoughts of winter after the glorious summer we are having.

Have a good day folks with ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care one and all xx

    Morning everyone,

Beautiful day here and already warm, I have just been outside to fill up the bird feeders and all the birds were sat waiting in the apple tree for the food, guess we are a bit late with their breakfast!
Not masses planned for today, the house is all done and the garden relatively tidy so apart from a little pottering think I will spend a great deal of my day sitting in the shade with my book, I am currently reading a series of books about Cambridge, a city I know well and it makes a good read.
Will also get over to see Lu, she had a day off work yesterday and I just gave her a pamper with a tidy up of her mane & tail.

Welcome home SR glad you enjoyed your holiday.

Have a good day folks x

    Morning

Another summer lover here. So lovely to keep waking up to blue sky blue sky and the big yellow ball on show ....see I do like some balls :D

AOD you certainly did time your retirement well and I think for all my annoying op cancellations the timing for my recovery has been perfect. so I am now back on track with my project B+Q paint chart ...nutmeg beige here I come. Nanny chose her holiday week well too hope she's having a good time I really miss her posts :)

Yesterday I had a little tidy up then sat in garden like lots of others here. Cant seem to get on with the new book club book though. I struggled through a chapter (it was a long one :o) then gave up. The girl who suggested it always picks really heavy reads and I'm afraid I am fairly shallow and like my beach reads particularly on hot days. I may try again before the end of the month but for now I have switched to The Missing by CL Taylor and managed a good chunk of it. Had a huge ploughmans for dinner and am considering some leftovers for brunch. Not sure why I spent so much time cooking my hip meals its salad all the way for me at the moment.

Wash on now and then Asda are popping round to put my shopping away later :D I sent them a thank you note for the service last week and had a lovely email back saying I had made them all smile in the office which was unusual :rotfl: Friend is popping round later with some medicinal prosecco (well it is made from grapes :)) All in all a nice day ahead and hope everyone else has a good one too.

    Hi everyone

Glorious morning here cake in oven, and DH gone to allotment for produce for dinner. Our lovely friends are coming over for the day, maybe a walk to the sea. We are lucky enough to have only a five minute walk to get to seafront.

Open gardens in Faversham planned for tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend follow summer lovers.
