Passbook savings account

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good passbook savings account where you can access money via branch and not phonebank or internet based?
Also i do not wish to receive monthly statements.

Customer service is my priority and not interest rate.

thanks

chelsea BS, skipton BS and stroud and swindon ( max 3 withdrawals a year for 6.35 % rate) depending on which building societies u have in your locality. these best for rates, most branch staff are friendly, in my experience Leeds BS are most friendly, chelsea are friendly as well , worst in my experience at branch level is brittania.

What banks and building societies do you have near you? Many BSs are regional so it is difficult to suggest beyond the general terms blf has used.

Also on the customer services front, what more are you expecting than the ability to deposit and take money out when asked, which all firms should be able to offer? (well maybe not shAbbey)

I have a cashbuilder account with Nationwide and they offer fantastic customer service, both in branch and by phone.

well exactly. i expect to be able to withdraw money without queuing for 45 minds, without showing up at 915 and the doors are stll shut and not having to put up with computer platform migrations.

the organisation you mention qualifies for the above.

i want a passbook based account with no monthly or quarterly statements.

savings rate is worse with book than with a card , 2.40% gross up to 10000  its account rates like that which enable nationwide to do free cashpoint withdrawals and no fees on cards when used abroad. ;)

if u are basic rate tax payer u getting 2.12 interest a year per 100.00 less what it costs u to visit the branch in time and/or travelling costs. if u phone them as well, less the phone call costs.

I don't keep a lot of money in it, the service is great and it keeps me a member of Nationwide... (As they closed my current account when I claimed my bank charges back)
