New employer wants me to start late

My new employer requested start 2 weeks after my current employment ends, purely for management reasons.
I can't afford to go two weeks full unpaid, would I be entitled to any benefits?

Have you any holiday pay due from your current employer as that might help bridge the gap.0

2 weeks will fly by. Chill out, stay indoors save the pennies that way.
I couldn't think of anything worse, 'piggybacked' jobs with absolutely no rest, a recipe for unhappiness in new job if ever there was one as you need to think of it as no holiday in the first quarter if lucky.
Round here pretty much all jobs are immediate starts, so your situation sounds weird.
Just by having my CV out there, I've had 5 employment agencies contact me this week about start next day pretty much 'temporary' jobs. Even one today with a 3 month job duration, I had to explain why not working my notice wouldn't be a good thing. as soon as the agencies find out I'm on a month's notice, down goes the telephone.0 -
My current employment ends on the 19th July.
I will receive 9 days accrued holiday which I'd great as I'll near enough earn full pay for thst month.
I go on vacation and was ready to start my new role on Monday August 6th. I was already going 1 week without pay which was manageable but a 2nd would be a struggle.
Thanks0 -
We have a similar thing at our place where people can only start on certain days of the month due to induction dates.
On the plus side you still have another month of work so if you are very careful and basically do very little for the next month you should hopefully be able to stretch the wage to last six weeks.
Alternatively (and you will have to be careful) a 0% credit card could be a possible solution to bridge the gap.0 -
Is your new job weekly for monthly paid? If monthly, then you may not get paid until the end of the month.0

The new job pays at the end of month. So my first payment would be for the last two weeks in August which will be too little to live on for September.
Thanks for all the messages of support. Ill just need to work something out !!!128522;0 -
Im sorry but I need to ask this
You are in full time employment and Im kind of guessing you have been for a while which is why you are changing jobs
Why can you not afford to carry yourself for a month?
why do you feel you might be entitled to benefit?0 -
I know it is a drop in the ocean but perhaps you could spend those two weeks making money online, if you do not do so already. This is a busy time of year for Prolific Academic, for instance, at least for newbies as they get the lion's share of studies. Just an idea.
Good luck in your new job.0 -
I see nobody has bothered to answer the actual question asked about possible entitlement to benefits. There is the potential to claim JSA but there is also a possibility that they won't pay if you quit the job. If the current job has simply come to an end that shouldn't be a problem. You won't get any money for the first 7 days of a claim for JSA. If you are in a Universal Credit area and don't qualify for Contribution based JSA you are unlikely to get anything.0
