I'm a seasoned comper. In the far distant days when tiebreaker promos prevailed (oh that they'd come back...) I gained a number of big prizes. The creative process was enormous fun and the joy derived from periodic success equally huge. Nowadays it's all prize draws where you've more chance of being knocked down in a rta, twice, than achieving anything via this particular comping facility. I enter scores of such promos each and every week but apart from once winning some welcome theatre tickets I haven't won a thing for more years than I can remember. To say I'm disillusioned and dispirited is a gigantic understatement...

It's the !!!!!ing that gets me to be honest - Facebook especially is just rife with outing cheats, and witch hunts and sob stories. I win a fair amount of books and dvds but haven't had a 'big' win for some time.

My Dad was a dab hand at the tie-breaker caption. It didn't have to be the best, or anything an ad agency would use, just the kind of the thing the judges were looking for.

I won one or two myself later on. The only comp I can remember winning just from a draw with no effort was one of the early Dickinson's Real Deal, back when the prize was still peanuts. The other wins have required some kind of effort, even it it was just naming the correct river in California when everyone else was naming the wrong one.

KEEN sent me pricey sandals for making them laugh. I'm wearing those now. Fab.

Misslayed

I remember being quite narked back in the 80s when the winning 'slogan' (why do you deserve to win?) for a huge prize of loads of tech stuff was . . . "Because I'm a hard working nurse and I deserve it". Although I'm sure she did deserve it.
