Information only accident affect NCB

Hi everyone,

Recently I have been stressing out about an accident which occurred in May 2018. A driver clipped my wing mirror and I reported it to my insurance company and I originally said I wanted to claim as it wasn’t my fault.

Before anything could be done a couple days later I thought long about it and decided I wanted to establish liability first in case the driver went 50/50 to try and protect my unprotected NCB of 4 years. I did and he said it was 50/50. Before my insurance company spent any money I said to them I would like to withdraw the claim with no expenditure from them done. They said to me this would be logged ‘information only’ but a claim could be made by any party with a 6 month time limit.

The other guys insurance and him agreed 50/50 information only also.

The question I raise to be hopefully answered by you kind people is -

When it comes to renewal of my car insurance, as long as no claim is made and it is still information only and I approach my policy with nothing else to report, will this mean I will get a year no claims rewarded by my insurance company and or does this incident affect my NCB at all? I know I’ll have to notify I had an accident but it’s my NCB I am worried about dearly.

My insurance aren’t very helpful :(

If anyone could help I would be very appreciative.

Chris :)

You will have to wait and see.

If no successful claim is made against you then your NCD is safe

Assuming the other driver does not claim from you and the claim is closed you should keep your NCB and earn another year from this policy. However, it might take a long time (possibly even years) to resolve, and in the mean time they might well suspend your NCD and give it back later.

Whatever happens, when you renew, you need to declare that you have had an accident/claim/loss, even though you didn't make a claim, as this incident will now be listed on the CUE database and it could invalidate your insurance if you do not declare it.

This will almost certainly lead to an increase (possibly substantial) in your renewal premium.
