Hi,
I've been looking for a small diesel for my daily commutes (around 300 miles a week) with prefence being fiesta.
Someone I know is selling his Nissan Note, diesel and has offered a very good offer (I have checked and compared everywhere). Car is 18 months old (with similar warranty left) and has all the features I need.
I am very tempted but got two questions:

I am very tempted but got two questions:
- Note will be good buy? I want to keep the car for a long time, 8-10 years.
- Looks like Note has been discontinued. Will this be a problem wrt parts etc?

The newer Note was less well liked than its predecessor, mainly down to the slower engine and changes in cabin design the owners felt reduced practicality.
The CVT models can!!!8217;t disengage the clutch when stationary so you have to put it into neutral or it'll burn out.
Otherwise it!!!8217;s known as being a well built reliable car which is very spacious inside considering its small exterior.
You shouldn!!!8217;t have trouble getting parts.0 -
Thanks. Forgot to mention, its a manual0

Your planning on putting 130,000+ miles on this car - I would buy 1 or 2 Honda Civic diesels over the course of 10 years than a 18 month old Nissan Note.
Good lucks0 -
If it's in decent condition and a good price, then go for it. Worst case if you don't like it you can trade up whilst losing very little.0

Thx but that would mean atleast 4k extra0

getting this for 6.2k and civic will be atleast 10k0 -
Upto you, if it was me, I would take a look at how many Nissan Notes are advertised on the autotrader with over 100,000 miles that are 5 years old.....only 3. Then look at how many Civics are for sale 30.
Tells me that either folk dont sell them or they dont get that far.
When I was looking for a Civic a few years back there were a couple with 300,000 miles on the clock.0 -
Or there just weren't as many bought in the first place, the Civic is a very popular car.0

The Note is essentially a restyled Renault Clio, poorly assembled in Sunderland.
The diesel uses the very popular Renault 1.5 DCI engine, the late petrol uses an unreliable variable cycle engine available with a simply dreadful CVT. (The early petrol used a good Nissan engine and a very good Japanese Torque converter auto in 1.6 form)
Nissan had to very heavily discount them to shift them when new.
They are ok to good cars if you buy with low expectations, they suffer mostly from annoying squeaks and knocks caused by the low cost suspension components and poor quality control.
The versions with the plastic "leather" suffer badly from cracking seatcovers too.
They do well to the gallon as they are so lightly built.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

That's because the kind of people that buy a Nissan note are unlikely to be doing 20k a year mileage!
It's like a Renault modus - they're owned mostly by pensioners or used as small family cars
Also as already said there aren't many of them.
We were looking at Nissan Notes OP when looking for a small car to replace a fiat 500 with something more practical.
The very high number of negative owner reviews complaining about the same issues put me off. Many of those being electrical issues and complaints about build quality and drive.
The original note was much better. The newer note was mediocre and much more Renault like than Nissan.
We bought a latest model Fabia for £7K (2 1/2 years old) and its a much better all rounder.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,0000
