My Roberts radio / CD player / iPod dock has just packed in. We had a lot of use out of it,mainly the radio, and sometimes cd’s. Not so much withe the iPod dock as it was fiddly to use. Looking at replacing it, but a lot of this new streaming stuff is quite confusing. I would possibly like to play the occasional cd, but it’s not a deal breaker if I can’t. Listened to a pair of Small Sonos speakers, for the size they were amazing, I have a lot of music on my PC, which I used with my iPod, and lately on Google Play, via my phone and headphones, and Bluetooth to Denton Soundbase. The Sonos doesn’t seem to support Bluetooth, and i don’t want to get into setting up a Nas drive with my computer. I’ve been trying to get a demo of some Ruark MR1 mark 2, reviews seem very good. John Lewis sell them,I went there Cribbs store in Bristol, but embarrassing for them no one could get them working, apparently they had only recently come in stock. I gave up after a good 20 mins. I did notice they had connections for connecting CD player etc.
So any advice on the above or recommendations on others, only big no is anything Amazon Alexa based, no interest in that at all. Adding speakers in other rooms is of no interest either. Radio is a must, even if it’s streamed, Have just started using Spotify, not sure if we will keep it and pay for the use, if we could use that as well, iPod dock not really needed, just use iPod with headphones these days. Sorry if it’s a bit of an ask, but any advice appreciated.

For range of connections, the KEF EGG are pretty versatile: Bluetooth, USB from computers, 3.5mm socket, and optical input. Also they sound superb.

The walnut veneer? They were sold out pretty much everywhere last time I looked. I've got a pair in the other colour... and they're awesome. :)

Slightly over that budget new, but a Bose Wave system would tick all the boxes, including a CD player.

Sorry i am not keen on Bose at all. I've ordered a pair of the Ruark speakers from John Lewis, if I don't like them it's easy to return them I've also looked at a Marantz one box unit, with a pair of Q Acoustic speakers, it's quite a bit over my budget but was quite impressive. Thanks for all the advice.

I think Richer sounds is the way to go. They would do everything to make the most of your budget . Their website has had an upgrade a couple of months ago also . You could do a lot worse. :)

Yes, but it's just a glorified piece of moulded plastic .....
