Your washing machine as suddenly died. You have a mountain of dirty washing to get through and just as you're planning your third visit to the local launderette you receive a notice you've won a brand new washing machine.
Today's question is have you ever won a prize that's come just at the right time? New car after you've had to scrap yours? Or cash prize when you've had a final demand letter?

After years of putting it off I have to replace the rotting wooden balcony that is my route into the garden. The railings fell off years ago and now the actual balcony is sagging and have to go out cautiously to hang up the washing! I ordered the wood to replace it even though I can't afford it, but I've just won a £250 amazon voucher that hopefully will cover nails, screws, brackets, paints and varnishes and maybe any tools we might need to replace! Absolutely massive sigh of relief and the timing is incredible! Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!
Best wins this year so far: £100 Hobbycraft Voucher, £50 cash, GoPro Camera0 -
I won children's toys which were absolutely perfect for my two youngest grandchildren at the end of November last year. It was coming up to a big birthday for my dad and I wanted to buy him a new smart phone and he had his heart set on a Samsung galaxy S7. I just couldn't afford a new one so I'd found someone on gumtree in my local area who was selling one at a good price because it was an unwanted upgrade. I'd negotiated a price and had a time and address to go and pick it up. On the way to the house, I had a phone call regarding a competition I'd entered on the big top 40 website a few weeks earlier.... I'd won a samsung galaxy s7 with 12 months of vouchers for a subscription service of my choice!! I couldn't believe it.
If the call had come 20 minutes later I'd have already bought the phone from gumtree! I phoned the seller and explained what had happened and apologised for cancelling but I'm not sure he believed me... probably thought it was an elaborate excuse for pulling out of the sale :rotfl:0 -
I'm deaf and need to use headphones that come with a fancy EQ app so I can modify the sound so I can better hear, which sadly are usually very expensive. The ones I was using went kaput and there was absolutely no way I could afford to replace them anytime soon.
I had a good cry about it as I'm so dependant on them in order to listen to music/watch videos/TV etc... (sorry, sob story worthy of FB!)
I checked my emails around an hour later and by some miracle I had actually won another pair! I'm always very grateful for any wins, but especially so for this win as it came at the perfect time. I'm so heavily dependant on them.
I had a good cry again - but happy tears this time! I'm still using them now and that was around two years ago0 -
Yes. I won a 3DS a week before Christmas, no notification, it just arrived. My son had asked for one for Christmas but I couldn't afford it. I was overjoyed.0

3 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer, needing an operation, chemotherapy and radiotherapy - taking about 9 months of that year. I carried on comping during that time as it gave me something else to think about.
In my prior 2 years of comping I'd never won a holiday; whilst going through treatment I won 3 hotel weekends away from different comps, plus some spa vouchers from another. As its difficult to plan breaks when having chemo (due to poor immune system and infections etc) I was worried that I'd have to miss some/all of these as they often have time limits for claiming. However, every comp organiser let me delay the holiday until I was more healthy.
One radio company even got back to me to offer an extra weekend holiday closer to home that I could book at short notice if I was well enough. We had a glorious weekend in Bournemouth (between chemo and radiotherapy) and spent time walking along the beach in the sunshine, just glad to be alive.
And then the next year we had our trips to York, Cornwall and Stratford-on-Avon.
Those wins certainly came at a good time for me as it gave me something to look forward to when I was feeling pretty low.0
