in Credit cards
i applied so that i could use it to try and build up my credit rating - i only wanted a £100 limit and i earn 30k.
do i just give up now and wait a few years? they said i could appeal with extra info - worth doing or not?

did you get a credit card in the end?
it's just that i want one for work expenses0 -
No I just left it..
Can you get a pre paid one for work?:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -
You could try Capital One or Barclaycard Initial who both also both offer cards designed to help you improve your credit rating but like Vanquis charge a lot of interest if you don't pay the bills off in full each month.
If you do not have a bad credit rating, you could just apply for a 'normal' credit card instead and only use it for work expenses and ask that any limit offered be lowered to something you are happy with.
I would not get a pre-paid one as they cost more and don't help you build up your credit rating..

well i applied online with equifax to get my report through. they took the £2 payment and never sent the report to me! (3 weeks ago)
i want to do it to rebuild credit rating but was turned down by aqua and vanquis so don't think there is much point trying others if they're going to refuse and hurt my rating further
i wonder if it is because my mortgage is in arrears? only by about £200, but was paying by standing order and the rate went up and i didn't change it in time, subsequently i am now making slight overpayments to balance it out and then i'll keep the overpayments going
is there a flag that goes up if a mortgage is even slightly in the red which means no credit card?0 -
Depends how many credit checks you've had done recently. I think you may need to hold off for a bit, but the post office may be worth looking at. And their APR is nothing like the Vanquis Card.
The post office website has a list of what would be required to get the card http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=34100665&mediaId=34300674
but also has a number you can call, so may be worth sounding it out with a sales person before applying.
If you've had 2 credit checks recently though, i'd wait a couple of months. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
