    Based on what you've said I think the solicitors might be confusing matters further especially if they're sending letters in and Nationwide have responded back asking for them to confirm the loan amount etc.
    They wouldn't ask for the loan amount to be confirmed later down the line with no reason.

    Have you spoken with the mortgage consultant to see if they can help at all?

    This is incredibly counter productive but if you are liable for SDLT and really don't want to incur it, you can always cancel the application and complete ToE then the further advance later down the line.
