I need a small laptop for home use. I browse internet, word process, store photos and music. I can't stand waiting ages for pages to load. I like the battery to last a long time. I don't want it to cost more than necessary. Please help me choose!

If it weren't for the scratch on the screen, I would recommend this; https://mcscom.co.uk/product/dell-latitude-13-3380-i3-6006u-2-0ghz-4gb-128gb-ssd-13-3-hd-90-day-rtb-wty-xmll138/0

A couple of people on here swear by their Chromebooks. I don't see the attraction myself, but since they claim a snappy performance and long battery life and good build quality, I will include them for comparison;
They have a non touchscreen option starting from 193 inclusive and a touchscreen option from £210 incl VAT and delivery.

My son says I don't want a chrome book! Someone advised me to go with an i5 4th-6th generation. I currently have i3 3rd gen but it's falling apart. Any other advice for me?0

Firstly i think your son is wise, but many a MSE'er like their chrome book.... apparently;)
Everywhere is slacking off these days, as this is what he one posted not to long ago too

This is the similar laptop to his post, but now has a less capable amd chip (Inspiron 15 - 5565
Processor: AMD A9-9400) for £215 http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=7&c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&s=dfh&dgc=IR&cid=296386&lid=5667687&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
From the above link but further down the page, the Inspiron 15 - 3567 for £329.00 would be my choice, but the certified refurb cost more for the same spec???
These will be heavier than a chrome book, and the battery power will not last as long either, but you will be able to install applications and save large files to disk.
Admittedly not the smallest, but not a 17" one either0 -
In fairness I do find the file explorer a lot more basic and less slick on the chromebook compared with windows- if you are using it a lot for photo and music management. It can obviously still be done, but it just isn't quite as good and/or intuitive.
The real strengths in my opinion based on what you are looking for is quick browsing and the battery life is far superior. It lasts forever compared with a windows laptop.
There are a lot of misconceptions about chromebooks in terms of perceived limitations so I'd just do your research and decide for yourself.0
