Hi,
Im currently nearing the end of my 6 month short term lease. When I took this flat, my girlfriend moved in with me and paid her share of the deposit. However 2 months ago she left me and the flat, leaving me to pay all the bills!
DO I owe her half of the lease when I give this flat up?

Her half of the deposit?
You can take her to the small claims court for her half of the rent and bills. I'm sure that's more than her half of the deposit which she would be entitled to - if she had paid her half of the agreement to rent a property for 6 months.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

So are you saying you paid 6 months rent up front?Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0

Who is the lease signed to? Is it yourself, both of you or her?
If it is only you, then it does not matter that she left you as her name would not be on the lease. In this case she would be entitled to her half of the deposit (assuming she has documentry proof of paying half the deposit) and would not be liable for half of the rent.
If it is both of you on the lease then she is entitled to her half of the deposit back, however you could claim her half of the rent should have been paid for the 4 months. I don't think you could claim from her for bills as she will not have used the utilities.
Hope this helps.
P.S. you looking to rent a different smaller place?:wall:
