Which smart meter tops up immediately?

I had my new British gas smart meters yesterday and now I'm feeling a bit hard done by. Previously, if my electric had run out suddenly, I put the key in and it came back on. Now I am told by the meter that it could take up to half an hour for the request to go through. This is completely unacceptable and downright disgusting. They've made it much easier for me to pay them but harder for me to get the energy I've paid for. I stuck with British gas despite them being more expensive, due to the reliability of the service and their tendency to deal with faults and servicing at more convenient times for me etc. But now I have an unreliable service so I need to find out which suppliers will provide a meter that will not leave me high and dry.

Please could you let me know which suppliers you have which provides a solid service and good equipment, smart or otherwise?

You now have a sensible meter which works much better than the outdated key and card meters.
Why don t you join most of us on here and start getting your gas and electric much cheaper by going on a cheap fixed tariff yearly deal far cheaper than BG s standard /variable sucker price rates.
Get BG to switch the meter into "credit mode " and leave the world of prepayment meters behind for good and stop paying top dollar for your energy.

Works better for who? Obviously not the OP & unfortunately not everyone is in a position to be able to leave prepayment meters behind.

One would have thought that the OP could adapt to the new sensible meters and leave behind the hopeless key and card meters which effectively dish out a small loan which is paid back immediately the customer can bother to waste time and energy, petrol or shoe leather to drop in at a Keypoint shop.
The answer is, now do not run out of credit..adapt to the new system..its better.

Whilst I appreciate your taking the time to reply, you did not answer my question in any way.

This new meter is not better than my old one. I visit my local shop every week on my way to my friends so using the paypoint has always been convenient for me. What really matters is that if my electricity ever went off before, I put the key in and the emergency would come on straight away. Now it will take up to half an hour and I will be left without any electricity for that period.

    This is not better.

As for advising me to switch to credit mode, we all have our own individual needs. I need to pay on a weekly basis due to my finances. I cannot manage with quarterly bills.

Now I understand you probably don't know which company will provide a meter that will top up immediately or activate emergency credit immediately, so I will just wait for some more people to answer.

    Thank you.

Could you not put an extra tenner on one weeek then just keep topping up as you do but use ten pound as the 0 balance instead of 0.

But that's not really the point. I'm sure we would all like to be in a position where we don't have to use the emergency occasionally but life isn't like that. That is the whole reason emergency buffers exist.

Your meter does not leave you high and dry!

You could make use your £5 emergency credit

You could enter the code manually to save waiting

You are whingeing about problems that don't really exist when you should simply be managing your money better like others have to!

I had the meter here placed in credit mode after passing a credit check and it was more expensive and lost the existing credit and quickly reverted back to prepayment mode.It takes around twenty minutes to apply the credit with British Gas.

I have never had to enter the vend code manually this could possibly ocour with a poor mobile phone signal.

The easiest method for me to top up is here .

Maybe you should stop being patronising and maybe answer the question that has been asked.
