help with choosing speakers please.

I have a Gateway GT5056b Media centre Pc which came with some pretty sad speakers considering it's potential usage! It will mainly be used for music and DVD's (until the new year when I'll be linking it up to the TV and stereo,) but first off I would like to upgrade the speakers. I'm not techie and some of the manual that came with the pc is double dutch to me as far as some of the ports go and doesn't help that the diagram isn't the same as what my pc actually has :o ! (The website's not much help either.) I've got no idea how to find out what sound card I have either so can anyone help please? I have a port which is colour coded yellow and labelled CTR bass - am I right in thinking this is for a subwoofer?

I've got a limited budget (amazon gift vouchers :D ) of £55 and have seen 2 that I like and there doesn't seem much difference between them. One is the

Logitech X-530 - PC Multimedia Home Theatre Speaker System - 70 Watt (Total)

and the other is :

Creative Inspire T5900 + 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System+ Black

Sorry - I've tried doing links to the pages but it's not gone right  .

Any help or insights will be much apreciated please. :D

Both the PC & speakers appear standard so you shouldn't have any connectivity issues.

The soundcard is "Integrated 8-Channel 7.1 High Definition Audio" (from the specs), with the usual jacks.

Also consider the newer(?) model to the T5900 - Creative Inspire T6100 for £37 delivered (more user reviews here & here)

The other speakers you referred to for quick comparison:
    * Logitech X-530 for £35 delivered (more user reviews here)
    * Creative Inspire T5900 (be aware it's refurbished & only available from a marketplace seller, so no free delivery)

You're right, there doesn't seem much difference between them - read some independent reviews before buying. G

Thanks for your help and all the links.

I've gone for the newer model, Creative Inspire T6100 as I didn't realise the T5900 was refurbished only, so many thanks for highlighting that. (I think I was too busy trying to figure the rest of it out to read it all properly :o !)

Should be here by next week and I can't wait .... not so sure about the neighbours tho'!
