16 Amp Supply - Help

Options
HI All,

I hope someone can advise. I am at a festival soon and have been given a 16amp supply. I will need 30 metres of cable to my actual trailer. I will then be converting the 16 amp to a 4 way 13amp supply for my appliances, that being a hairdryer, phone chargers.

My main item will be a 2.5KW Tea Urn. Will I be overloading the items? I am mindful the tea urn is 2.5KW however this will not be a constant energy consumption.

I have been offered a 32 amp supply on the same circuit, will this cover the items.

Greatful for any advice.

As long as your devices are correctly fused you will be ok.
But don't use anything heater related at the same time, eg don't use a tea urn and hairdryer at the same time, it might blow the fuse.
    2.5kw @ mains voltage is < 11 amps
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

Well, it gives you four 13A sockets. Not really the same thing.

The tea urn will draw about 10A on its own. The phone chargers practically nothing.

If you want to use the hair dryer and tea urn at the same time, check the rating of the hair dryer. Anything up to 1300W is OK, as that's less than 6A. Above that, you're pushing it a bit.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Also depends upon how you are 'converting' to 13 amps. If you mean an extension lead or adapter fused at 13 amps then you limited to drawing a maximum of 13 amps.

ok the set up will be a 30 meter 16amp extension from supply to caravan, then I will use a 16amp to 13amp connector with a 4 plug socket.

I cannot post pictures as a new user but the item numbers on eBay will be

    232800822878 and 301894808812

    cheers

232800822878 nothing showing under that number.

301894808812 is only 1.5mm cable this is 2.5mm and for 30m would be in my opinion a better option:

    And don't forget RCD protection.

Looking at the same item from other (and cheaper suppliers) it is rated upto 10A. The item I listed is rated upto 12.5A (fully unwound) but needs a 16A plug to 13A socket adapter(s).

Avoid using the tea urn at the same time as the hairdryer and you'll be fine.

Use a high quality lead for the 30m run though - some of the cheap ones use cable that's too thin.

You really want 2.5mm cable - something like this https://www.toughleads.co.uk/collections/extension-leads/products/premium-caravan-hook-up-16a-230v-2-5mm-sq-marine-grade-flex

Note that the regs limit the extension to 25m. Hopefully that's enough!
