Phony TPS calls scam

I have received several calls (8 in total) calls over the past week from a company saying they are from the 'Telephone Preference Management Service' and asking if I am still receiving marketing calls, etc. As I am a compliance consultant and one of my areas of expertise is data protection, I knew this was not going to be from the real Telephone Preference Service.
They were telling me that they had to confirm my details in order to 'renew' my registration on the TPS - which is completely bogus as the TPS leaves you on their site until you request to be taken off it, plus you can check your data is still on the TPS site by simply going to their site and inputting your number. You don't need to put your name or anything else to check this.
I have reported the firm and the numbers they used to the TPS and to the Trading Standards.
BTW - once I said to the person who called me last time that I had reported them and asked where they got my details from as it was against GDPR and they hung up. I know we are all a bit sick of GDPR but that's a bit extreme! :rotfl:
Be careful people! The TPS will not call you to 'renew' a registration and will never ask you for your details and never charge you.
Let's be careful out there.

It would be handy if you told us what number they are calling from so those of us with blocking devices could add it to our barred numbers.0

And add the name of the firm.0

These guys have rung us at around 9.30 am and 5.30 pm for weeks now! They use several spoofed numbers, usually starting 02....
When I'm in need of entertainment I answer and have conversations ranging from surreal (why are you making an unwanted call to offer me a service to stop unwanted calls?) to nasty threats that they know my address when they realise I am wasting their time.
The real TPS will never phone you...0 -
