In
Going to be moving into my own flat soon and was wondering about the warm home discount. Is the 16,000 limit for households before or after tax please.

I know it’s june but I would just like to know.
Mortgage free wannabe 

Actual mortgage stating amount £75,150

Overpayment paused to pay off cc 

Starting balance £66,565.45

Current balance £58,108

Cc around 8k.

    I'm no expert though I think it;s before tax-. More experienced mser's maybe answer.
    I'm continuing to await 2018/2019's WHD criterea being announced.
    Got payment from SP last year though I'' switching to sse this year may have to re apply.

    As (in the main) WHD is means tested, the 16K is take home pay.

    So 16k aftertax then. I earn 16.500 before tax so after tax it will be lower.

    Broader Group of low earners isn't means tested at all.
    Though this years is taking ages for criterea to be announced.

    If you look at the qualifying benefits, it is Income Related benefits that enable you to meet the requirements.

    For example. DLA and PIP are not automatic entitlements. ESA income related is, so is JSA income related - both with the disability premium. You get the disability premiums through claiming certain levels of PIP and DLA.

    From British Gas’s website for the broader group:

    Quote: Be a customer with a gross annual household income (HHI) of less than £16,190[1] and spend 10% or more of household income on energy bills to heat the property. Unquote

    I read Gross to mean total take home pay BEFORE tax and deductions.
