Need help turning camera on on laptop please.

I'm trying to use Skype but my camera is not working. Ive followed youtube instructions and done the things suggested but it is not working.
I go into settings/privacy/camera but it shows that the camera is 'On'. When I go to camera I just see a grey square with a camera on it with a line through.
The F8 key shows the same thing but pressing that makes no difference.
It must be something Ive caught accidentally as it was working yesterday as normal when I logged off.
Any ideas please. Thank you.

Type Camera in Cortana/search (assuming Windows10) and left-mouse click the Camera app. What does it say when it runs?If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

Thanks for the reply. When I do that the camera screen appears but there is a / through the pic of the camera. There is nothing on that screen which allows me to change that.0
