A & L new Premier 50 account

Has anyone had a look at this new account for the over 50s? It began on Monday 29 October. As an existing customer I have not been able to open any of their newer accounts but it says this one is open to existing customers. There is a £10 fee - is it worth it?

Do you travel a lot? The travel insurance element looks not bad - especially if you are over 70 (but under 80).

On the whole it depends on what insurances you already have and whether £120/year is good value for you. I don't think there is a definitive answer of whether it is worth it or not: it depends on your own needs and current cover for travel and health.
  • If you can keep your monthly balance around £2200, the interest earned will account for the monthly £10 fee

It's true that the net interest received would be around £10/month for just over a year (up to 31 January 2009); however it would be easy to find at least 6% elsewhere so the real extra benefit in interest is nearer £1.50/month.
  • Thanks for those figures. This is what is great about this site- helping each other with useful information so we can make up our minds.
