Lots of Essex is lovely - I live there myself :) But don't take offence, it's not how it was meant. There was some programme on telly about how people pronounce the f word and sh.. word. North Essex and South are apparently very different.
Yes, I think that comment was made in good spirit and was a kind of continuation of a lighthearted discussion on here last week when westernpromise described a visit to Southend on Sea :)
As a borderline Essex girl myself, I found it very amusing.

I can't listen to a bloke at work without wanting to laugh now as he's 'proper Romford' and sucks in when he says the 'f word' :rotfl:(which he says a lot LOL)

I hope so but it didn’t help with the line that all of Essex is the same.

Nobody suggested Essex was sh*te. The suggestion was that it's all much the same but depending how they pronounce "shiyit", that could tell you which part it slots into.

The other bit of linguistic GPS is whether they say the f word while breathing in, and / or without pronouncing the f: "hhhuckinnell." It's questionable that should still be called the f word when it doesn't have an f in it.

White socks come and go, but shiyit doesn't change.

Further to that, you can tell someone hails from Hackney if they say "hospidall."

I really don't think anything was meant by it.
One great attribute of Essex / East Londoners is the ability to laugh at ourselves :)

Likewise if you're from Shrewsbury you call it Shoesbury, and if you're from Bristol, you pronounce it Brizzle.
