Cheapest red wine?

I'm not keen, either, and I have the added problem that too much red wine makes my lips blue (nothing medical - just stained).
I much prefer Rose (wot no accent) - I'm so glad it's no longer socially unacceptable to drink it.0 -

This is true of expensive or cheap winesNothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
My home-made wine is the cheapest I've found at approx £2 for 6 bottles.
I've always wondered what qualifies someone to be a wine "expert". Whether a wine is drinkable or not is subjective, surely.0 -
I find the cheap red wine to taste awful and low % alcohol.
Best to stick to a minimum of 11.5% for red and 10% for white,This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

And don't a cheap wine that is more than a year or two old.0 -

Can you give more details please?Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
As others have hinted, the problem with buying cheap wine, is that the majority of the price you're paying is tax & packaging, leaving very little for the wine itself.
You'll struggle to pay much less than three quid; this infographic illustrates it nicely:0 -
I like my wine so the British "wine" quoted makes me shudder a bit, but if you like it drink it.
Not so long ago somebody gifted me membership of The Wine Society, but I still use Aldi and Lidl too. I can second Cornucopia regarding some of Lidl's regular wines: I was pleasantly surprised by a cheap South African red which I bought for some marinading and mostly drank instead!
As pointed out I don't think that in the UK you can buy a £3 bottle and it taste great due to the tax, but maybe a trip across the channel and some 5 litre containers would be the way to go. Lidl in Italy used to sell 1 litre tetrapaks of red wine for a euro: I didn't notice on my holiday in January this year but I suspect it's probably more like Euro1.20 now!
My GF only started drinking wine when she met me about two years ago, and she illustrates the problem of getting interested: gradually you start spending more per bottle to get the more interesting wines. But generally the news is good as winemaking is so much more reliable these days that the current cheap ones are nothing like the cheap ones of my youth. They were pretty rank!0 -
So what is the difference between cheap £3 bottle and a bottle much more than that?
Is it just the name? Taste?
They are both made from grapes, what is the fundamental differenceNothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
