Cheapest red wine?

There are a few bottles at some supermarkets for around £3
Is there any cheaper places, if you buy in bulk or something?
Also what is the main difference? How can some of these red wines be £3 and still taste great? Are they made differently or not as good in some way?

even the Bible say a little wine is good for you.
Jesus turned water into wine his first ever miracle.
I love a little red wine occasionally as my beverage with my meal in the evenings.
I wondered is there any difference between the really cheap wines and the expensive one from the pint of view of health?
I can get a bottle of cheap red wine for bout £3 that I actually really like the taste of. It's made with grapes isn't it? Just the same as bottles much more expensive, but I there any reason not to drink the really cheap wine?Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
Here is the one I buy

It's Produced from imported grape juice
But all wine is produced from grape juice isn't it?
I wonder if there are more harmful chemicals n it or something than more expensive bottles?Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
Main issue with a £3 bottle of wine is that £2.08 is tax in the form of government duty, add another 20% VAT and there’s no much left for grape juice, especially after bottling, shipping etc taken into account.
They’ll probably be selling at a loss.....0 -

Yes I think it is one of the loss leaders to get you into the store and they make profit on the other things you buy at the same time
But is there any issues with inferior quality?Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
If wine producers had to put a list of ingredients on their bottles like most other products for human consumption you might realise why it is so cheap !!0

If you're going for very cheap wine, then it pays to know the jargon.
The Tesco wine linked above is in a category called "British Wine". This is a special term that means that it is fermented in the UK from grape juice that is a mix from, well, anywhere.
This is as opposed to "English Wine", which is typically White Wine that is produced from grapes from England (and tends to be a premium product).
Although the Aldi & Lidl message is probably a little predictable, they both have a good reputation for their wines. In particular, Lidl is currently going through an extended period of offering a deeply discounted wine every weekend. Sometimes these are £2.99 (not always). The ones I have tried have been great. The Californian Rose is very nice. :beer:0 -
I can pretty much guarantee that a sub £3 wine is not going to taste "great." They may be drinkable (depending on the occasion) but that's about it.
But if you find one you like, you can stock up when the "buy 6 get 25% off"deals are on.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I think it depends on the circumstances. A wine on offer at £2.99, that otherwise has plausible credentials (in particular a known region and grape variety), is worth considering. OTOH you might wait a while for a Red Wine to be offered.
This is the wine from Lidl this weekend (in the SE of England). I'd take their claim of it being worth £4.50 with a pinch of salt, but it's certainly good VFM at £2.99, I would expect.

Only discounts I know of is when the supermarkets have the x% off if you buy a certain number of bottles eg 6 or more, multiple of 6 and even then you can be restricted more as bottles need to be a minimum price. Maybe you will get lucky and find some on Amazon for a decent price.
Would need to work it out if it's cheaper to get a decent bottle from Aldi/Lidl.0 -
I have yet to find a drinkable red wine. They all taste like paint stripper to meValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
