Changing tax status of car to disabled when the addresses don’t match

Hi, I am buying a second hand car from a garage, currently untaxed.
I will be using it mainly to see my disabled son and take him to events, playgrounds etc. He has fully exempt disabled status for car tax.
I have the document stating his exemption status but it’s in his name, with my ex wife’s name and address on the front page, different to my address.
Will this matter? When I take my insurance certificate to the post office, will they want to see proof he’s my son? Will the fact that the adddresses don’t match mean I can’t change the car tax status? Will it matter that the V5 will be in the previous owner’s name - do I have to send it off and wait for it to come back in my name before I tax it anyway?
Many thanks for your help.

I can only answer the V5C side, not sure about others, sorry.

You will need to tax using the new keeper slip (green).

The car must only be used for your son's purposes also. If the mother of your child already has a car taxed under the disabled tax then you won't be able to use the exemption.
