Super Balance Transfer cards

How do you know which cards are SBT cards? I have had a look at different cards to see if I can tell but I just can't seem to. Is there something specific they say so you know they are SBT cards or is it just one of those things that you know about?

The best way to identify SBT cards is by following discussion boards like this, reading Martin's articles or from credit card tables that show this information. The site I run (sponsored by Martin Lewis & MSE) has such a table where was annotate cards that provide SBT with a red dot.

Thanks Clariman. I have heard of a couple which are SBT cards, one being Egg which I already have with a balance on, and Virgin but I didn't know if there were any others. I have looked at Martin's articles about balance transferring and the like but can never seem to find the information (probably can't see for looking :rotfl: ). I hadn't noticed on the credit card tables giving the information. Could you tell me the site address that you run?

Egg is the main one and cards run by MBNA (e.g. Virgin). If you google for "stoozing", the site I run is the first non-paid for link that comes up and click on the "card tables" menu option.

    lynseydee,

Martin's stoozing article talks about using the Egg Money credit card and a '0% on BT's' donor card. This is OK, and of course could be the cheapest (but not the longest) option, but obviously may involve two applications.

You can SBT directly from an MBNA (or MBNA run) or Egg Card (Visa) and get a reasonable duration with just the one application.

There are also other options worth investigating such as Mint (via 0% cheques) and M&S (via the travellers cheque loophole).

The 'red dot' table mentioned earlier can be found at www.stoozing.com/0fees.htm.

    Card shuffle time again.

I've got £5K on a 0% Barclaycard that runs out at the end of December so decided to go for a Virgin 15 months 0% on BT (2.98 fee). I used to have a Virgin card over 12 months ago, so was going back as a new customer  .
Was accepted, no problems. Even given a £11.4K credit limit

On my application I put in the details of my Barclaycard to transfer the £5K to, this has also gone through no probs.

Now I seem to remember than the minimum payment for MBNA cards isn't a % of the outstanding balance, but £5. Is this still the case? If so, I'm thinking of transfering another £5K into my savings account for the 15 months (2.98% fee).

Can anyone confirm that the min monthly repayment for Virgin credit cards is still £5.

    ta,

The minimum payment details are given in the summary box and the T&C's. However, in summary, and for new applicants...
    • 1st minimum payment will be the 2.98% fee +£5
    • Subsequent minimum payments will be £25
Max transfer is 95% of your limit.

IMO, it's best to request the transfer by phone (as opposed to online), so you can check the 0% interest rate will apply. Otherwise you risk being charged for a money transfer, which is rather expensive

You can also wheedle a little more than 95% of your credit limit this way ;) The money arrives in your bank account in about 6 days.
