Can a friend sell a replacement phone, received through the insurance.

She lost her phone a few weeks ago, together with her bank cards etc. She bought a new phone having felt a bit stupid, leaving her phone on a train. It was never found.

While waiting for new bank cards she had to visit her bank and was surprised that she actually had free insurance which covered her phone, part of her bank account member perks.

She filled in the details and waited. Now a replacement phone has arrived, but having bought one already she has no need for it.

There is no IMEI number on the phone box.

At the time of her loss she filled in all the details of the lost phone on the insurance claim form, as she still had the original box. This, of course included the IMEI number etc.

The bank insurance eventually sent her the new phone, which came with her new bankcards. No other paperwork was received.

Will this phpone be unlocked or tied to her original network ?

thank you

As the insurance replacement handset has not been used, it makes sense to sell the one that has never been used in mint condition.

Presumably the lost phone will be barred now, as the IMEI number was supplied and a replacement has been claimed on insurance.

You can easily retrieve the IMEI from the insurance replacement handset by dialing *#06# to see the IMEI number on the screen.

The insurance replacement is likely to be unlocked but this should be checked by trying different networks SIM's before advertising it as unlocked to all networks.

No issue selling it - was there an IMEI on the packing slip? All the replacements I've had from insurance have been unlocked

    thanks !

Yes there is although it isn't actually marked as an official IMEI number like on the original Samsung box (from the lost phone) I did a check online and the number is OK though bringing up details of the phone.

Am I correct in assuming I should not show this IMEI No. on the Ebay listing ?

I don't know why I shouldn't ... just seems there must be a good reason not to do so, but I don't really know why.

With that IMEI someone could report that new phone as stolen, put the number into various online datadases as well, making it worthless in the uk
