Can I get Severe Disability Premium if brother lives in the same house?

Only just found out that Severe Disability Premium existed and I'm wondering whether I should have been receiving it whilst I was on DLA (I was on the middle rate care component), and whether I should receive a backdated SDP payment if my PIP appeal is successful and I'm awarded the living component).

I live at home with my mum and brother. My mum receives a qualifying benefit (DLA, now PIP) but my brother receives no benefits – does his presence mean I won't be entitled do SDP? That seems awfully unfair.

If you live with another adult who doesn't also qualify you don't get it.

If your mum claims Child benefit for your brother and your mum also claims daily living PIP then yes you'll qualify. If not then like shel has stated, you won't qualify. Unfair or not, unfortunately that's the criteria.

May be worth a benefits check to see if Carers Allowance may be a possibility.
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.
