Hi
The issue I I am fully comp on my car for Sdp and commute
Purpose+ can drive private cars on third party cover.
The other day I was driving my brothers from work and got hit from behind very minor damage. I phoned my insurance to let them know of the incident for information purpose not to make a claim. Was told as am a named driver on his car his insurance will deal with it.
Found out my bothers car which I am a 2nd driver on is only for social and domestic. Is this going to be an issue?
Thanks

It will if the insurer discovers it was being used on a journey not covered by the policy - but was it?0
-
It's a non fault incident incident where no claim will be made as damage was minor.
So if my insurance allowes me to drive to work that would not cover me on another car to commute.0 -

Do you have driving other cars cover on your own policy?0
-
Yes I do, as I am fully comp for Sdp and commute which also let me drive other cars with constant from owner. Am only informing them of incident and will not be making claim.
Just a bit concerned when I phone the other insurance co they mite say that policy for that car is only Sdp and not commute innocent mistake as I have my own car to commute to work just assuming I can drive the other car as will.0 -
I don't think your DOC covers you to drive your brother's vehicle at all if you are a named driver on his policy.0
-
Your DOC only comes into play if there is not another policy that covers the same liability.
Your DOC would usually give you the same cover as on your own policy, so SDP &C, however, as your brothers policy covers both you AND the vehicle it's his insurance that takes over - I guess the 2 insurers will have to fight it out over who is going to deal with liability, because you brothers insurers could argue that they don't cover you as you were commuting.0 -
If you haven't reported the incident to police. Can i still do it just for the record. Am calling the insurance on Monday.0
-
Why would you want to report to the police. Bearing in mind your worry you weren't insured??
Was anyone injured?0 -
I was under under the impression that social and domestic covered you for traveling to fixed placed of work and back?0
