What funding - if any - can I get as an adult / mature student for a masters degree?

Options
Are there any adult mature students on here that have applied for and done a masters?

I am setting to and about to apply for masters but I suddenly realised that I had been a tad dumb and hadn't researched exactly how I'd be funding it. I assumed the universities I'd be applying to would let me know what to apply for.

Is it like a student loan that I have to apply for when undertaking a masters and not going part time and funding it myself?

Are there bursaries or adult scholarships I can apply for?

  • Another question....

Should I apply for a loan before I apply for the masters degrees?
I ask this because the application forms I'm coming across usually have a section which asks about how I intend to fund myself.

Not sure if you can apply before you have a place, my hubby just wrote he was applying for slc funding and that was fine

The Graduate Loans max is just over 10k, so it will just about cover your course fees (depending on the course), if your course is part time you're only eligible for half each year. Your University should offer scholarships too, but I suspect these vary from Uni to Uni, mine's up to 50% off the fees (I think the average is 10%). You should be able to get working tax credit if you work alongside your course, there's a minimum number of hours though. I'd already been offered a place when I filled my Graduate Loan form in.
