advice on getting CC with high limit

Many, many thanks for all answers, I did learn a few things! @!!! my Experian credit score is not made up, it's 979 to be exact.
I don't think he was accusing you of making it up - these "credit scores" are devised by each lender separately, so a card provider would neither know nor care that Experian have given you a score of 979; they would assess your application on the basis of the facts of your history.
It's Experian who are "making up" the score.0 -
It is made up.
Lenders do not see it nor care about it.
And again, no one can comment on what limit a lender decides to give you.
How about £50k - how does that sound?0 -
Right, what about my other question: Would applying online for 2 CCs at the same time (minutes apart) from 2 different lenders affect both applications? Is a CC application going to be visible on file immediately once it's made? If timing can be exploited then I might as well ...0

Yes the search/es will be on your files as they happen in real time0

Yes, the second CC applied to will likely see the search in respect of the first, unless they use different CRAs. However there is a delay before opened accounts appear. So you might be in a stronger position than, say, if there was a gap of a couple of weeks. OR, depending on how they look at things, a gap might be preferable (eg to the second CC, your utilisation might look lower and you could look less distressed)
I've applied twice in quick succession and got both cards.0 -
Is there a way to find out which credit agency is used by specific lenders?0

You can check here, though it's not updated regularly:

And lenders aren't obliged to say who they use0 -
My salary was probably similar to yours, when I applied. Tesco gave me £12000, MBNA was £10000, Barclaycard was £10000 and Virgin was £7000. I already had other cards with high limits, when I got the Virgin one though, so not sure how helpful that one is. Hope this helps.0

That's encouraging, thanks for chipping in. Did you also have any loans (or mortgages) when you applied like I do? Also, when was this, and over what period of time did you apply for Tesco, MBNA, Barclaycard, or were these 3 applications made at the same time/same day? Were they the 0% for many months kind?0 -

No loans or mortgage. Around three years ago, I think. I think that I applied for the Tesco and MBNA cards within a few minutes of each other, with no obvious issues. I have done this a few times (applied for 2-3 cards, at the same time), for stoozing purposes, and have never encountered an issue. I think that the lowest credit limit that I have been given, in the past five years, is around £6500, probably when my total available credit was around £100,000. It's crazy really but if one is sensible, then it can be useful.0
