Sorry to read of your dissatisfaction here John. As others have pointed out, this is a standard exclusion for the reasons outlined. In our Home Policy document, it says, on the general exclusions page (p9 of the current policy document which is available at https://www.zurich.co.uk/home-insurance)
"We will not pay for the following...
4. The cost of replacing any undamaged item or part of any item just because it forms part of a set, suite or one of a number of items of a similar type, colour or design."
In recognising the frustrating nature of that, we do often work with claimants on a part payment basis for the undamaged parts.
I'm sure our claims teams can discuss this with you further if you need to.“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Zurich Insurance. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -

It’s a bit tight only replacing part of his work surface. I’ll be sure not to take a policy out with your company.0 -

Good luck finding an insurer without this clause.....AFAIK it's fairly standard throughout the industry.
Yes, it sounds tough, but can you imagine how high premiums would be if cover INCLUDED matching items...???
Oh dear, I spilt paint on the footstool that goes with my 4 piece leather electric recliner lounge suite but they don't make that style anymore....so can I claim for £10000 to replace everything rather than the £500 for the footstool.....yeah right!!!!:rotfl:How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
On a practical note, an insert of stainless steel worktop next to the cooker is both useful and likely to look more like an intentional feature and less like a mis-match.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
