Should i cancel transaction buyer won by "mistake"

Ok, so i was selling a PS4 game.
The auction was going along nicely, and sold for a decent price (around the price you would pay in shops for the game)
But then within an hour of ending i get a message "sorry won this by mistake and don't want it"
Now this listing was on a FVF £1 day, so i offered it for the second chance offer (like they ever happen)
In the mean time i receive another message from the winner of the auction, "Sorry don't want this"
Second chance offer elapses so i relist (now with full FVF, which means if it sells at the same price it will cost me £2.50 more)
Now i get a less curt message, "how many times, i don't want this game!"
The guy bids (twice) in the final hour.
and wins, i assume the mistake is he's won another at a cheaper price (may be unfair
)
So why should i allow him to just do it again?
The relisting is currently £12 less than he won it for (£11 less than second highest bidder) but has a fair bit of time left.
Part of me thinks life's too short but the other part thinks

I don't see the issue here other than a bit of hassle with having to relist.
Cancel the sale as proceeding with it (or trying to) will only end badly for you. You can open a Non Paying Bidder if you feel the need, but he could pay or worse, could pay and claim INR/SNAD. It really isn't going to work well for you in forcing the issue. He has asked to cancel rather than leave you hanging without paying.
Next time understand that you should not be offering a second chance until you have closed the first sale with a cancellation.0 -
I would open a NPB and risk the fees.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I tend to just cancel and block them, an NPB is tempting but probably not worth the hassle. I would only cancel though if they ask quickly enough, once I have a NPB open I would never cancel then.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Am I reading right that he won it once, got it cancelled, and then bid again on your relist? That's weird!0

Cancelling is the cheapest way to do it. If he paid and asked for a return based on SNAD you would have to pay the return postage and refund in full, plus lose 20p transaction fee to Paypal.
All it has "cost you" is the offer on FVF. There will be another along soon.0 -

That's not strictly true, new game prices drop all the time, and the final price could be a lot lower (ATM £10 lower) due to the extra time and price drops elsewhere.
Anyway, i have cancelled it and blocked him as not worth the hassle.Where the !!!! has the Shrug gone!

But you didn't ever "have" the first sale because he wanted to cancel within an hour of the auction, he was the highest bidder and he drove the price.
Yes it is annoying but you really have got the best scenario in this situation, you perhaps don't realise how much worse it could have been. Maybe selling on ebay isn't for you?0 -
I didn't have the first sale because of him... he drove the price up by £2 (still £8 more than currently)theonlywayisup wrote: »But you didn't ever "have" the first sale because he wanted to cancel within an hour of the auction, he was the highest bidder and he drove the price.

Time wasters should have some form of punitive measure against them IMO. ATM a NPB (that's a lot of acronyms at once:o) strike is all there is, and sure it may inconvenience them but doesn't stop them bidding for the same thing at the same time with different buyers then just pulling out if they win more than one and demanding you cancel.
Of course it won't happen as they are ebay's cashcow.

I do agree but buyers do have the front foot on ebay.
If a buyer asks to cancel BEFORE they have paid, I cancel. Regardless. Mostly I cancel if they ask AFTER.
However, if you decide NOT to cancel and opt for a NPB, then it gets messy and potentially expensive for the seller.
Don't get me wrong, I do feel the same about these time wasters, but you have to look at their potential [harm and cost to you] and the possible best outcome. This is the best possible outcome in this situation.
Don't let that put you off, just make sure you know what any "end case" will be before you want to to "allow him to do it again".
They can, they will. All you can do is block and move on.
You'll see another £1 FVF offer soon I'm sure, I get them on my private account at a rate of knots that makes me want to switch from business to private, but that's another story.0
