Euro Car Park charge in Northern Ireland

Having looked through the newbie section and various posts, I cannot find a definite answer for my problem.

It is touched upon, but very vaguely.

I received a letter from a Euro Car Park in Northern Ireland issuing an invoice for not paying for parking.
The driver would use this carpark sparingly, only as a last resort, and always paid. On this occasion they swear they did, although have no proof, so he/she may as well hadn't.

I was under the impression that I lived in the Holy Grail of Northern Ireland, where you cannot be touched by these private parking firms. In the past I have received ones from malls etc and ignored them, and they went away. Never made any contact. Driver unidentified. Scary letters. The usual. All stopped.

Except this time the fianc!e has seen this, posted to our new house. She is now freaking out and saying we will have debt collectors at the door, that I've been irresponsible etc etc. Nobody I know pays these things, and everyone she knows pays them supposedly. Classic debate.

Having ignored the initial letter. I received one from DRP.
I ignored that, got a reminder that I must now pay or they will recommend legal action. I am rather arrogantly and confidently laughing off the very idea that this will go anywhere. Very much to her frustration.

As of June 2018, in Northern Ireland, can this go anywhere near a court. Baring in mind they don't know the driver. Once DRP give up, is that the end of it?
Will Euro Car Parks give me a chance to pay less than the £130 DRP wanted. At this point I'd be willing to pay euro car parks direct, just to get the other half off my back and stop worrying. Happy wife happy life and all that.

I have never respected these private parking companies and paid their letters no attention in the past. I'd hate to start now.

Help a guy out please!

IGNORE drp, they are powerless but will continue to chase for 5 or 6 years in the forlorn hope of being paid

only a driver can be made to pay, so if the driver has not been divulged then its almost impossible for ECP to try anything in your civil court system

    just file and IGNORE

if you were the rarity that received an actual court claim, come back for advice, but dont hold your breath

NI is fully covered in the Newbies sticky, with no confusion whatsoever - as are DRP.

The thread is also fully up to date - With the date of last edit/revision on every post.

You do, she is wrong and panicking about nothing. Show her this, from one woman to another, don't be a victim of a scam.

My husband took some convincing the first time I ignored one, several years ago!

Show your fiance this site, especially the NEWBIES. She obviously needs something better to do than watch daytime TV if she thinks debt collectors can come to your door.

No offence meant, but it is that, the internet, listening to idiots who don't know what they are talking about, or reading tabloid junk that has put those sort of ideas in her head.

Don't change your position on this, if necessary change your betrothed! Show her this post too. :rotfl:

Too much watching ''Can't Pay, We'll Take it Away'' and not realising:

    - those are only High court writ cases where the claimant has won in court

    - no parking company scammers sue in NI

    - you are indeed untouchable by this con-merchant industry, and she needs to spread the word if she has clueless friends who are wrong about this obvious scam.

  • Thanks for the reply guys.

Didn't expect anything so quick. Firstly, I am well versed on DRP and completely understand that aspect of it. My confusion was around WHAT happens in Northern Ireland, once they give up. I know to ignore them and they're cowboys and scaremongering etc. Thats never in question.

Thanks very much for the reassurance.
    Sorry for the trouble

How many times are you going to copy & paste that reply?

  • Well aren't I just glad I posted this in the end. In her defence, she wishes she had time to watch all these things mentionned above. She works hard, but unfortunately her brain doesn't switch off. Over-thinks everything. I shall continue to ignore. Really appreciate all your replies. I don't begrudge paying to use these car parks at all. They are handy and very cheap. But their behaviour is just so desperate and childish and seemingly criminal in some cases. In the event that the situation and legislation changes in Northern Ireland, I assume it will be well documented and covered publicly?
