Have they found my account?

Just a quick one.... I recently complained about PPI being mis-sold to me back in 2001 (I have no paperwork, no proof, nothing to say I had PPI, but I'm pretty sure I did) to Lloyds, via a form on their website.
A few days later I received a questionnaire to fill out and return, which I did. The letter contained the last 4 digits of my account numbers, with a time frame of my claim.

Is it safe to say they have found my credit card accounts from that far back? Has anyone else complained to Lloyds from that far back with absolutely no paperwork, and been successful? Thanks

They won't have done any in-depth investigation until you sent the complaint form back. Do you know for certain that you even had PPI?

I'm pretty sure I did. I just found it weird that there was a line with:
Account number xxx xxx xxx 1234 and xxx xxx xxx 5678... when it was 17 years ago

How could you "complain" about insurance that you are only "pretty sure" you had? What complaint reasons did you give?

I was a student and it was added without my permission

So you "complained" that it was added without your permission, but you don't even know for certain you had it?

I'm not 100% sure, but i think it was added without me knowing, and I had no need for it

    This simply didn't happen.
If you had the insurance, it would have been itemised on every credit card bill or on the Agreement if it was a loan.

If you didn't know you had the insurance (if you even did) then you've either forgotten agreeing to it or you never read the documentation you signed.

If you had PPI, your only hope for a refund is that you weren't eligible for it being a full time student not working.

Thanks for your help. I was definitely a full time student at this point.

I'm not holding out much hope that they will find my account after 17 years but you never know.

If they have the numbers they know you had an account but it doesn't mean they still have records or details of payments.

PPI didn't cover students who were not working (think it was 16 hours a week to qualify) so that should be your main complaint reason. Don't go on about adding it without your permission and not knowing you had it (those 2 contradict each other)

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
